My Skin Care Origin Story

I was diagnosed with Lupus at the age of 32. Lupus is an autoimmune condition affecting every area of the body including the skin. Disease activity waxes and wanes depending on the patient’s circumstances. Sun exposure is one reliable way to induce a flare of the disease. Suddenly I had strict instructions to sun protect in every way possible.

I took this advice to heart. It was a far cry from my baby oil slathered beach days growing up in Los Angeles.

Fast forward several decades. Despite my sun protection precautions from age 32 onwards, those UV rays from my youth started to manifest their damage. I noticed fine lines and skin dullness. But most bothersome to me was hyperpigmentation, a dark blotchiness on sun exposed areas.

I wanted a solution and consulted with my Dermatologist. She recommended restorative laser. With this, I took a deep dive into learning about light therapy. I found a long and rich history of research and practice. It included laser, which uses powerful coherent (parallel) waves of light, and low level light, using the same carefully chosen wavelengths, but with non-coherent waves for low powered long term use.

I decided on a combination of therapies using both, and also including an evidence based set of topical treatments okayed by the dermatologist. Her office has graciously photographed my progress.

Fast forward to the last couple years. I have taken a deep dive into all things Korean. This relates to my interest in Kpop and dance, but more importantly to the Korean mentors I had when I was growing up. My intense approach to schoolwork, sports, and even certain aspect of my personal style came from them. Koreans value self care and beauty. In fact, the maintenance of one’s own health and the cultivation of one’s own beauty are considered forms of courtesy to all those around you. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that many of the recent advances in skin restoration in Dermatology came from Korea! Even the kdramas ( film content from Korea) I was watching on Netflix showed characters engaging in sophisticated skin care routines, as though it were a given. One evening, while watching the older KDrama “ King, The Eternal Monarch”, I saw this:

The device on her face did not look a prop to me. You could even see the LG logo on it. The character was the skin obsessed Mayor of Seoul so I knew it was for skin. I I already knew I wanted one. I tracked it down and learned all about the delivery of red light therapy to the face using masks like this. I discovered, of course, that some are quality and some are not. Not only can they address cosmetic issues, but that can also help with conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

Using what I learned, we have prepared to offer these wonderful products and services to you.
